Katherine Livesey (Cottam) the wife of John Cottam Sr. and Maryann Livesey (Crabtree), the mother of Lotta Crabtree were sisters making John Cottam JR, the father of Lottie Cottam (Hatch) and Lotta Crabtree cousins. My mother Lottie C.
Hatch in her story about her father tells the story about her father visiting Lotta in San Francisco when he was in the underground evading the Mormon Church authorities when polygamy was declared illegal in the Territory of Utah. I am sure the story is true because my mother never embellished the truth. I became interested in Lotta when I lived in Northern California because of what my mother had told me and I started collecting articles about Lotta whenever I came across them. Lotta never married and when she retired from entertaining she was worth a good deal of money. She never married. She must have had some sort of foundation established because as late as the late 1990's farmers in Vermont or New Hampshire were still receiving grants from this foundation. I hope those who read about her are as interested in her as I have been.
