OUR GALLERY OF PIONEERS
IRA STEORNS HATCH.
Ira Stearns Hatch, progenitor of a large posterity, a family particularly well known and prominent in Bountiful and throughout Davis County, and other sections, was truly a pioneer of sterling quality. He was a native of New Hampshire, born Feb. 9, 1800, the son of Ira and Lucinda Rice Hatch. He was a member of the Nauvoo Legion and when 500 faithful sturdy souls in the vanguard of the “Mormon” migration went into the service of their country as the Mormon Battalion he was found among them. After that signal service to his country he came to Utah in 1849, and in that same year settled at Bountiful. Thereafter throughout his life, until he died in 1869, he was a builder, an organizer and a wise and faithful counselor in the circles of the men who made this great state what it is today, and as such it is a pleasure to honor his memory in “Our Gallery of Pioneers.”
