Lincoln’s birthday Feb. 12 – 51
Dear Round Robin,
It was good to see you fly this way. You flew here last Sept. Where have you all been all the time? In the last letter I reported our trip to Logan etc. Since then Eve had an operation and a trip to the coast, which I have told you individually about so will not repeat.
We enjoyed all the epistles and it occurred to me that it would be a good thing to jot down the clever or wise sayings our little ones make. I am sorry I didn’t take time out to do that. When Mary was very little she told me a big story. I said, “Where did you get that?” She answered, “I read it out of a magazine.”
One day she said, “I haven’t had candy for years and years (years).”
One day the big boys were teasing Frank. He came in and told me and went out and said, “If you kids don’t stop abusing me my mamma will hit you on the bean.”
The other day Paul, 4 yrs, informed me that the sun is 100 times bigger than the world. “100 times means 10 + 10 + 10 etc.” until he came to 100. Then Stephen informed me that the sun doesn’t move but it looks like it does. He said the Heavenly Father made the world move.
Stephen has taken to checkers. He told Wm. that his great grandfather was a champion checker player. It is amazing how much the little ones pick up.
The grandchildren are all wonderful, from the little black haired doll-like baby who already shows signs of being able to “crack atoms,” to our oldest Frank W. Let all try to help each one to fill his niche to the fullest. No two are alike, but every one is very precious. The grandparents love them dearly and want to know about their incoming and outgoing.
It has been like spring for 2 weeks. Last night there was snow, but the sun shone today and the snow is gone.
We have our Gold & Green Ball on Thurs. Sat. is Leland Thompson’s farewell. He goes into the service Mon., Feb. 14. The day has been beautiful. I washed and the clothes are dry. Wm. went north to stay a few days. He loves it.
Dear Robin, try to make the trip in a shorter time.
Love,
Father & Mother
